What function describes the number of rubber bands required to drop a doll "y" distance?
Directions
Find a doll or action figure to use for this activity.
Create a secure harness for the doll around their feet. (see image #1)
Create a table with the labels "number of rubber bands" (x) and "distance dropped in cm" (y) . (see image #2)
Create a bungee cable using several rubber bands.
Measure the distance (centimeters) the doll drops and record it in the table.
Repeat step 5 several times gathering data on the distance the doll drops given a certain number of rubber bands. Remember, accuracy is critically important!
Analyze the data using the graph and your created data table.
Develop a function that accurately predicts the distance (y) that the doll will drop given a particular number of rubber bands (x).
Test your function to see if it accurately predicts the distance the doll will drop.
With your teacher's permission, find an area of the school that would provide a significant drop. Measure the distance from the drop point to the ground then use your function to create an appropriate bungee cable for your doll.
